I’m looking for a pet sitter for my 2-year-old miniature dachshund, Rudy. He’s very affectionate and loves attention.
Rudy is house-trained but may need some extra guidance in new environments. For example, my sister watched him twice, and on the second occasion, he struggled a bit with house training. If he’s reminded where to go, he’s usually fine, but he does need supervision since he might sneak off if left alone in a room.
Rudy is very playful and gets along well with dogs he knows. On walks, however, he can be a bit unpredictable—sometimes he’s fine with other dogs, other times he may not take to them.
He’s great with adults he’s familiar with, though he can be territorial when strangers enter the house. Rudy is best introduced to new people and dogs gradually, I tend to introduce him to people outside the house. He can be fearful of men, which I believe stems from a past experience with a neighbour when he was a puppy.
We usually feed Rudy raw meat once a day, and he has biscuits available for grazing throughout the day (though he often eats them at night, if at all). He drinks plenty of water and loves to play. Rudy is fine being left alone, as long as there’s nothing left that he can chew on.
He generally has lots of naps at home, he used to sleep in his cage but became unsettled with it after a visit to the vets. I think he had a bad experience and started to dislike it. He has been sleeping in the bed with us but I think he would sleep better with other dogs.
I’m going on holiday from July 31st to August 5th and was wondering if you’d be able to board Rudy during that time. If you’re not comfortable with Rudy’s behaviour, I completely understand as I know not everyone is able to accommodate a dog who can be territorial in the home (with men).
Thank you for considering, and I look forward to hearing from you!
