I'm normally working from home (Panton Street), so taking care of dogs is something that I like doing very much. We keep each other company. Play some games in the house. Get some fresh air during some long walks.
About me: My name is Yvonne, I'm 28 years and studying towards a PhD degree in Sociology. This means I am usually working in our study at home, so I am very flexible time wise.
Originally from Berlin, Germany, I've been living in Cambridge for almost ten years. It's one of the most beautiful cities that I've seen in my life. I particularly love that it's so green and that there are so many dogs around, which, in my view, is always a good indication that people here are nice :)
1. Taking your dog for a walk weekdays 8am - 7pm and on weekends/holidays 11am-5pm. Duration: 0.5 - 3 hours. I will charge you for travelling to and from your place, depending on how far it is.
2. As for 24/7 stays at your place
this is no problem for up to 2 nights in a row (provided that you live within 30 bike ride from Panton Street, Cambridge); if you live further away or need someone for more than 2 days, this is also possible, but needs to be discussed at least 1 week in advance
3. As for homeboarding stays, i.e. your dog staying with us, this is possible whenever you see a green day in the calendar; for up until 7 days in a row, longer times possible but needs to be discussed at least 1 week in advance
Emergency requests are always welcome.
My partner is a scientist and goes to the lab in the morning at about 10am and comes back at about 8pm at night. He loves animals and is always happier when there is a dog around :)
Why am I on this platform? Spending time with a dog is one of my favourite things to do in life. It really is. There's something magical about dogs. I am very flexible time wise because I am working on my research from home all day long. I am free to take long walks or just keep your dog company; whether at your place or at mine. For example, you're welcome to drop your dog off at our place in the morning, for a weekend or a vacation. We'll be happy to have company!
I grew up with dogs, both in my family home (always poodle mixes), and at the houses of relatives and neighbours in a green area in Berlin, Germany. I have taken care of dogs, sometimes for several weeks at a time, mostly by house sitting for friends in Cambridge and London. This has included feeding, walking, cuddling small to big sized dogs, in apartments and houses. Among them were various poodle mixes, a husky, golden retrievers, labradors and a rather large but immensely cute pyrenean mountain dog.
Where? My partner and I are living in Cambridge near the city centre, on Panton Street. It's a two-floor house that features a small front garden and a tiny outdoor space in the back. We are 5 minutes (by foot) away from Sheep's Green, which leads on to other parks, such as Coe Fen, Lammas Land and the path towards Grantchester. Jesus Green and Midsummer common, in turn, are about 20 min by foot, respectively.
Your dog can stay with us during the day and/or over night. Our house is spacious inside, with a living room, dining room and kitchen space downstairs (all openly connected with no doors in between). There are two separate bedrooms upstairs, one being used as guest room/ study.
Dogs are welcome to play in all rooms. I am usually downstairs during the day, so we will be there in the open space together. If the dog sheds a lot of hair, we would probably keep her out of our bedroom unless it makes her all too unhappy to be alone. We have comfy blankets and cushions for her to sleep on. There are some wonderful carpets on our wooden tiles, so dogs usually love jumping around, walking, stretching and sleeping on them.
We have a small front garden that is not fenced and a tiny backyard. The front garden is full of plants and not fenced, and so not great for lettings dogs roam around. We sometimes leave the back door open, so that your dog can move freely between the ground floor and the outside back space (which is only about only 3x3metres though).
Unfortunately, I don't have a car, so I wouldn't be able to come get / drop off your dog.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Yvonne is great, very friendly and caring, my dog had a lovely time with her!
Good with dogs at any age; including old ones. I can give oral medication (I know a few ways that usually work but usually dog owners all have their own technique, so I'm happy to do whatever works best :))) and I can also give injections.
Solid knowledge of dog training techniques, having previously taken dogs to training camps / schools, including teaching them the basics when they are young; for larger dogs, this has included taking 'adult dog training lessons', too, but obviously this very much depends on the kind of dog you have (some just require very dominant dog owners so that takes sticking by some rules, which obviously does not apply for little poodles, for example :))
Unfortunately, I'm not the best at at throwing balls, but I'm still learning :) Great at cuddling though!
