About Damien & Kirsteen
We both love animals, and have looked after lots through pet-sitting, fostering for charities and ownership (birds, dogs, cats, rodents and turtles). At present we offer dog walking, puppy socialisation, dog training help, doggy day care, pet boarding and pet visiting in owner's homes. We've a comfortable house - heated 24 hours in cold weather - with a secure garden, and plenty of local places for walks. We are happy to make our furry friends feel welcome, safe and at home. Any size, shape or age of pet is fine, except large, powerful dogs which pull on the lead. The pets are loved and treated like family. Sociable dogs would be taken out and about with us to hostelries, homes of family and friends, etc.. Equally, however, we're happy with quieter times in our home and garden with timid pets and oldies. Given that we generally have dogs around, small caged pets would be kept in a separate area of the house, and cat-sitting would take place in the owner's home.
We're both here all the time, and don't have resident children or pets apart from foster dogs at times, so we can fit around the pets' needs, whether that is a quiet place to recover from injury or having a fun holiday. We love animals, understand the importance of consistency and fun training, and we only use positive approaches to managing them. Due to our love of animals, we never use slug pellets, weed/pest killers, chemical fertilisers, etc. in the garden. We heat the house 24 hours a day during cold weather and we have annual safety checks on the boiler. DOGS: We've been involved in dog rescue and rehabilitation for several years, and have a good range of experience of different breeds. Dogs are walked according to their needs - generally 2-3 times per day. Nearby walks include: Figgate Park; Innocent pathway; Newhailes; Carberry; Musselburgh beach and lagoon, but we have a secure garden for puppy playdates, oldies and timid dogs who'd prefer to stay at home.
Our PVG certificates (in respect of suitability for working with vulnerable groups) are viewable on request.
We're flexible about pick-up and drop-off times, but ideally between 8.30am-10.30pm. Doggy daycare is up to 9 hours and boarding is up to 24 hours.N.B. We've never had serious illness here. To safe-guard all the dogs, flea and worm treatments should be recent, and we will ask to see the vaccination record for Parvovirus, Distemper, Hepatitis and Leptospirosis. (N.B. We don't require kennel cough vaccinations.) **Gifts of unwanted dog equipment would be most welcome - e.g. toys for our toybox, harnesses and other items your dog no longer needs would be very useful for our foster dogs and dog refuges.**
