About Emma
I am an animal lover with lifelong experience taking care of cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, reptiles, frogs, birds, and even sheep and goats! I was raised to adore animals of every kind, and when I'm visiting my parents, I'm taking care of the livestock on their smallholding. We have an attention seeking sheep called Mabel who is more comparable to a puppy than an ovine and several very naughty goats who love to escape and cause mischief. My love for animals extends beyond vertebrates as I keep bees in my spare time and have several colonies of fancy-breed woodlice.
I grew up with animals, so giving them the love and care they need and deserve is second nature to me. I work particularly well with cats, rodents, and reptiles - and your houseplants if needed! I love well behaved dogs but feel my introverted nature is a little meek for larger, more energetic dogs.
The animals I have kept are very particular with their housing arrangements, so it really does take a responsible person to give them a home and I am more than willing to put in the effort to make sure your pet's needs are well catered for. Did you know guinea pigs need a friend, or they get lonely? That goats have very sensitive tummies? Or that a snake can't digest food at cooler temperatures?
I'm in Gloucester to study a master's degree, so it gets a bit lonely having left my pets at home with my family. This is why I would love to take care of yours, and am more than happy to entertain or cuddle your pets (but just a quick check-up on how your animal is doing is totally fine too!) Fuzzy or not, every animal brings me joy and I'm always excited to meet a furry (or furless!) friend.
Out of term time, I normally stay at my mum's house in Somerset on our aforementioned smallholding. This is where my guinea pigs, tortoise and cat reside with our ducks, chickens, goats, sheep, and bees. They are all very spoilt, having had thousands invested into their homes and welfare. My ball python is here with me in Gloucester, but rest assured his enclosure is securely locked. He does not eat people (contrary to popular belief) and I truly believe upbringing has a direct impact on behaviour - I've kept snakes for about six years now and have never been bitten.
I'm comfortable and experienced with with small animals, cats, and reptiles. I have past experience with dogs and have been hired to dog walk and housesit with doggies several times, but I've found that my specialty lies in cats, rodents and reptiles due to past experiences.
I am confident in administering oral medications via syringe and have had thorough experience with such but have minimal experience with and do not feel comfortable with administering injections under the skin unsupervised. I'm also reasonably experienced in cat grooming having groomed my feisty Persian cat at home, and guinea pig grooming as my Texel piggy is not very good at grooming his backside!
I do have a car, and in the event of a pet emergency am happy to provide transportation to the vet's if you wish. I work part time in Stonehouse, so I mostly want to stay around there and Gloucester longer term, but am happy to help out in neighbouring towns and villages too. Please note I sometimes work odd hours (4am-12pm, or 3pm-9pm) and take that into account when booking as I know some pets have stricter schedules than others.
Thank you for taking interest in me - I hope that your pet(s) and I will become great friends!
