My love of dogs began in 2011 when I began
supporting an autistic woman whose family had three dogs. Prior to working in
this role I was comfortable stroking and walking smaller dogs but was slightly
apprehensive around bigger dogs in case they might overpower me due to their
size. Spending each Friday with my client's pets (their own and other dogs they
would dog-sit) exposed me to larger breeds and put an end to any initial anxiety
I had. It was my job to help my client become as independent as possible, which
involved caring for her family's pets (feeding, walking, cuddling) when her
parents were not around. 

I have worked as a PA/support worker for over 10
years with clients with varying needs who each had cats or dogs. As well as
petting and playing with the animals, I also occasionally had to make trips to
the vets and comfort any animals who were distressed, whilst listening closely to
information given in case something important was said but missed. I currently support a
shitzu owner and have become particularly fond of this friendly and relaxed
breed. I walk, play with and take Fudge to the vet for routine or emergency
appointments.  

Alongside my support work, I also work as a
Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and see certain clients at different
times each week which means the times I am available for dog duties changes
week by week. When I am not working I enjoy painting and have painted a number
of my friends' and clients' pets. 

Unfortunately where I am currently living has a no
dog policy but I am happy to dog-sit in your home should that be a requirement.
Cats however, are allowed.
