I am a final year student studying Wildlife Conservation at the University of Kent and I have just come back from doing a year in industry at the Wolf Science Center in Austria. I am really passionate about wildlife in general, but I am especially fond of canines. Unfortunately as a student I am not able to have my own pets whilst at university, but I grew up with chickens, cats and my own dog Smokey (a collie x standard poodle), so I am really missing animal contact.
I have a wide range of experience working with pets, but especially dogs. This includes past work at a kennels and cattery, voluntary dog walking for the RSPCA, 2 weeks voluntary work with Animal Aid in India (a rescue charity for street animals), 6 months of daily private dog walking for 3 dogs (one of which had aggression problems), and 6 months internship at the Wolf Science Center in Austria (an international research center focusing on cooperative canine behaviour between wolves and dogs) where responsibilities included feeding and medication of wolves and dogs, as well as walking and basic training with the dogs. I also trained my own dog, including in agility.
I would love to walk dogs regularly around Canterbury and would be happy to take dogs on longer walks too around Blean Woods, etc. I would also be happy to do home visits and stays, but due to being in rented accommodation I cannot offer pet sitting at my own home. Unfortunately I do not have my own car so I am limited to walking and public transport.
