My husband and I just recently lost our pug Odie, at the age of 14 years and 8 months. We had adopted him from a rescue just shy of his 2nd birthday, so we had him for almost 13 years. The loss has been devastating, and we are not yet ready to welcome a full time new dog while we still mourn the loss of Odie. He was our child for all intents and purposes, and we gladly made sure our daily lives revolved around him...when he needed walks, food, cuddle time, etc. We took very seriously every trip abroad, interviewing potential dog boarders, visiting their homes, to ensure we were comfortable with the environment and person who would be caring for him. So we know how big of a decision that can be. We are hoping that by watching dogs for others we can enjoy the time with a furry friend, and also provide the peace of mind that we always wanted when Odie was being watched for us.
Odie had a number of personality quirks and health issues, especially these last few years. He always had some separation anxiety from the time we rescued him, which got worse when he went deaf several years ago. He also was getting an increasingly weak bladder so we had to walk him much more frequently or let him out on our patio and then promptly hose it down. He took medication for his joints which we had to get creative in getting him to eat. Luckily I work from home all but typically one day a week so I could be around for Odie as much as possible, and on days where I had to be out, I had a dogwalker come by.
My husband and I live in a basement flat, with a small enclosed courtyard patio, only accessible by us. The space is large and cozy and we don't mind if a dog is on the sofa with us, or even sleeps in the bed with us, as we allowed Odie to do all those things. I cannot promise to be home 24 hours a day, as I might need to go to a doctors appointment for an hour, or a gymclass for 45 minutes, but if we are boarding a dog I will ensure I keep those things to a minimum. We look forward to watching dogs for others, and hope in some small way it makes us feel less lonely about missing Odie so much.
Sarah look amazing care of our dog. We got daily photos and you could tell he was so happy and well looked after. They treated him as if he was their own. I could not recommend her more and I’m sure our pup cannot wait for us to go away again so he can return!
Couldn’t fault Sarah at all! Very friendly, accommodating and provided constant updates and photos. Would definitely recommend to anyone!
