About Lucy
About me: My name is Lucy, I am a 28-year-old journalist from SW London. I am currently seeking a new journalist position so I have 24/7 availability to offer my services as a dog walker and/or pet sitter at my home or yours.
I am a very kind, trustworthy, diligent and patient individual, who has always had an affinity for animals. As an avid animal rights activist, I spend my spare time writing about the mistreatment of animals globally and lobbying for campaigns such as the fur trade, animal testing, dog fighting, backyard breeding, anti-bully laws and fox hunting.
My experience with pets: As you can see from my photo gallery, I had quite the zoo growing up: 1 x rescue brindle Staffordshire Bullterrier, 1 x British black and white shorthair cat, 2 x guinea pigs, 1 x Welsh section B chestnut roan pony, and 1 x Welsh Section D chestnut cob. I also had a small indoor aquarium with the following tropical fish: tetras, guppies, danios and yellow-tail damsels.
Although I currently do not own any pets, I am knowledgeable and confident in pet-sitting a range of species and breeds.
Since 2012, I have been working as a part-time swimming teacher, which has led to clients offering me house/baby/pet-sitting opportunities. I have also pet-sat for friends and family on multiple occasions. This has encompassed feeding, grooming and exercising pets, as well as cleaning cages/mucking out. (You can see me with some of my family and friends' pets in my photo gallery).
IMPORTANT: Rats and mice are a no-go as I have a phobia. Although I am not scared of reptiles, I have no experience handling them, so I would rather not take on these opportunities.
Dog walking/handling: Having been raised with rescue Staffordshire and English Bull Terriers, I am confident handling these breeds and aware of their need for lots of attention and exercise, as well as the safety risks regarding their strong bite force. I am an active bully rights advocate and believe that through owner education and training, our society can safely enjoy having these misunderstood breeds.
If your dog is anti-social or temperamental off the lead, please provide me with as much information beforehand and any equipment such as muzzles to ensure safety for the dog, myself and others at all times.
Boarding at mine: I currently live with my mum in a 2-bed ground-floor maisonette with no cat flap and a 42ft private, fenced-off garden (please see image gallery). Whilst I am off work, I will be at home 24/7 and will be able to take your dog on multiple walks throughout the day. I am a 15-minute walk from Richmond Park and another local park. I am currently not working and will be spending my days at home, applying for jobs so if people need boarding, I am happy to have the pets at mine and will be at home with them.
If you need me to collect your pets, please keep in mind that I will be travelling via public transport so would prefer drop offs unless your pet has the right equipment to travel safely on transport with me.
Visiting your home: I am available to do multiple house visits and/or night stays anywhere that is accessible by public transport in London. As I can't drive, I would ideally like to stay as local to SW London as possible, to ensure I can reach your home quickly in case of emergencies.
Equine requests: As a former DIY livery horse owner and Pony Club member, I am confident preparing feed and hay nets, rugging, mucking out, cleaning tack, grooming/bathing/clipping and catching field-kept horses. If your horse needs exercising, I am happy to offer this service since I am trained in all three disciplines. I can exercise them in/outside the school. For reference, I am 5ft 5 and weigh 56kg. Please let me know if your horse has any medical or behavioural issues.
Final note: I appreciate how stressful it can be to leave your pets in the hands of strangers. Therefore, I am happy to offer you multiple interviews and a visit to my place to ensure you feel comfortable leaving your pets with me. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask! P.S. lots of cuddles will be provided, just as they are my own, unless you advise otherwise ❤️
