Hello!
We (Liam & Deirdre) moved here from Ireland nearly 4 months ago, and are really missing having a pet around!
Deirdre is a PhD student and Liam is an MA student, meaning that we both have spare time. We have got experience owning both cats and small dogs and would really love to take care of pets, as we don't have any pets of our own at the moment. We love to go for walks and explore the city, but also love to stay home and cuddle up on the sofa.
Deirdre's mum took her dog when she moved here, and Liam's mum took his cat, which really broke our hearts, but we knew it was for the best for our little babies, where they are happiest in the surroundings that they find familiar in their older age. As a result, we hope to do some pet sitting in order to cope with our lack of pets and prepare us for pet ownership. Between us, we have had dogs, a cat, rats, a chipmunk and hamsters (Liam loves small animals like rats and mice and has lots of experience with them). So we are happy to accommodate any pets like that!
In terms of details, we live in an apartment with no upstairs or downstairs neighbours, so there is minimal noise from the street or neighbours, meaning that your pet will be in a calm environment! We live alone, so there are no housemates to deal with, and we have a 55 sq metre apartment, so relatively spacious. We have a small kitchen, a really spacious living/dining room, a bedroom and a bathroom, so it is a completely self-contained apartment. Pets are welcome wherever they like in the apartment - we don't have any pets ourselves, but we are happy to let the pet roam as they please! They are welcome to sleep where they like, including the sofa, but we will mimic whatever rules they have at home!
Though we live on the first floor, we have a communal garden (which is fenced, but we wouldn't leave pets alone in) in addition to a park on our street, so there are lots of options for walks. We would be happy to walk them for an hour a day - two 30 minute walks or one longer walk. We can accommodate up to two 45-minute walks a day, depending on the dog, their needs and habits!
Generally, one of the two of us is always home - Liam works from home and Deirdre goes to works up to 3 days per week (6 to 8 hours) but is home on the days Liam is gone. However, we are often home together, meaning there is always someone ready for cuddles and walks! We both work on university work at home sometimes, but we take all our evenings and weekends off work, and usually, one of the weekdays we just relax at home. Overall, we are home a lot and ready to spend lots of time with your lovely little friend.
We are happy to walk, feed, play with, pet and love your little friends! Whatever we can do to occupy them and share our space with them, we will be happy to do. We live very centrally in Birmingham and are happy to travel to wherever you may be if your pet doesn't like other people's homes.
