Hi, I'm Vanessa. I'm 37 and a professional adult nurse for 14 years. I'm currently working part-time in a post-anesthetic recovery unit in a private hospital in Bristol, and waiting to start my Master's degree in Public Health this May.
I grew up with cats, dogs, birds and rabbits as pets in the household, and have always been passionate about animals. I have co-owned cats and dogs with previous partners, and did my fair share of dog-walking. I have experienced pet sitting cats and dogs for family and friends, and recently looked after a friend's 18month old pointer for two weeks in my own home.
I own a beautiful and active British blue kitten called Marty. In November, he unfortunately developed a rare condition called idiopathic immune mediated polyneuropathy, documented mostly in pure breeds where there is rapid neuromuscular deterioration that can affect their mobility, lasting a few months before eventually getting better.
He was discharged after 5 days in an animal hospital and we continued to nurse him at home. I administered his medications, looked after his toileting needs, ensured his balanced nutritional intake and religiously followed his physiotherapy exercises. In February this year, he regained his full ability to jump up, was formally discharged by his physio team, and now fully recovered from his condition. For this, I'm grateful for my transferable skills in nursing.
As a hobby, I'm quite active and love being outdoors. I enjoy hiking, running, gym, muay thai and bouldering. I also love to read and crochet.
I will ensure your cats are very well looked after during my time with them, incorporate play time or interaction as needed, and following their routine at home as much as realistically possible. I will be able to send photo updates as required, and happy to arrange a meet and greet prior, and would appreciate detailed instructions of what they need during my stay. I normally work 3 longs days a week, but please check with me for availability. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
