About us -
Mother (Maureen) is retired, although she remains a very active lady. She was brought up with Labradors and Retrievers and has been involved in various aspects of animal care throughout her life ranging from puppy trainer, championship dog showing, working field trials, dog breeding, dog grooming, right through to pet shop owner.
She adores animals and has an amazing affinity with them and sponsors several who are unable to find forever homes.
Daughter (Natalie) is a qualified RN who has grown up surrounded by animals. A keen walker and runner (great for active paws), with a love of photography and nature.
Both have many years of expertise, having owned different breeds of dogs, from the very very small right up to the giants as well as cats and small animals from birth through to death.
We have a small menagerie at present, two dogs and one cat.
All our pets are neutered, insured and fully inoculated and are used to meeting new friends. The dogs are very sociable and the cat mingles quite happily although in good weather she usually spends her wakened time out and about.
We also have a pond full of fish, newts and frogs. and as keen wildlife enthusiasts, we are fortunate to have a variety of creatures who visit regularly.
Our motivation -
Lifelong lovers of all animals and passionate about quality care, we have decided to open our house to provide the best home from home experience we possibly can.
We have chosen Pawshake because of its transparency, personalised touch and community spirit. Like most we have had to use kennels for our own before but times have changed and we acknowledge that its much nicer and its much more settling to know your treasured pet is enjoying long walks, chasing balls, paddling in rivers, wagging their tail, meeting and playing with new friends, safely curled up asleep or having a new human play games to stimulate their natural instincts while you are away.
Our promise -
Our boarders are treated as part of the family and they enjoy all the comforts of home.
We appreciate that it can be a worrying time for both owners and their fur-babies when apart and so we strive to make the transition as smooth as possible to ensure a happy and healthy stay.
Understandably not all pets like to interact with others all the time so we have designated quiet areas for those who prefer a little peace but we will always ensure our service is suitable before accepting bookings and we never overbook so you can be assured that your pet(s) will always be our priority.
We do not have kennels, all dogs share the house and garden as one big happy family.
Crates will only be used if part of a dogs normal positive routine, dogs must be fully familiarised and comfortable with their use and crates must be provided by the owner in a safe and durable state.
Our garden is spacious and designed for both wildlife and pets so there are a variety of sights, smells and textures for stimulation, sunny and shady spots for relaxing alongwith a paddling pool and huge toy boxes for playing.
Walking is done at various social locations. Primarily we use Catherington Downs (hilly open grasslands), Denmead Common (grass and woodland), Clanfield Park (grass) and QE park (forrest). We also use Cowdray Park (grass and river) and Petworth Park (grassland, woodland and lakes – great for the swimmers but only if safe around livestock). We also mix our walks to include roadwork which targets different muscle groups and helps to keep nails short.
All off lead locations are fully enclosed and designated for dogs so safety is maintained.
We often take the dogs out in the car for a ride and during the summer will also visit Hayling, Southsea and Wittering beaches.
* Please note - All visiting dogs must be fully vaccinated. We strongly recommend the kennel cough inoculation (an annual nasal spray easily obtained from your veterinarian) due to the high prevalence of the disease in the south of England.
* Clients will be required to provide everything their dog/s will need for the duration of their stays. This includes food, bowls, bedding, grooming equipment, walking aids, treats etc.

This was Ludo's first stay with Maureen and Natalie for four nights. He settled straight away and their care and attention was brilliant. He had lots of walks, plays and cuddles, and I felt very confident and happy about his stay. It has been so nice to find a homestay that is like home from home for him and I will certainly be booking more stays with Maureen and Natalie.
We enquired to quite a few places to find a dog boarder for our 4 month pup Herb, but when we came across Maureen and Natalie, it felt like the perfect place for her to stay.
Communication with Natalie on the phone was great and then we went to meet in person at their house and wonderful garden with Herb for about an hour which went really well and we felt very confident that she would be safe, well looked after and in very good hands. Natalie explained absolutely everything in detail and then we had the opportunity to ask any questions.
We booked her in for a 2 night stay, and when we arrived to drop her off, both Natalie and Maureen made us feel very calm and happy to leave our pup. Throughout the stay, we got regular updates and pictures/ videos which were detailed and articulate. It’s clear that Maureen and Natalie are extremely professional and just absolutely love dogs and Herb had a fabulous stay. We can’t recommend them enough!
