Hi! I’m Rika from Japan  I’ve always been an animal lover, and dogs have a very special place in my heart. Back home in Japan, my family has a sweet Shih Tzu who has been part of our family for many years. He's such a gentle and funny little dog, and I miss him every single day. Since I can’t see his in person right now, I often ask my parents to send me photos and sometimes even video call his — she usually tilts his head when he hears my voice, which always makes me smile.

When I was living in Australia, I had several opportunities to work as a dog sitter and really enjoyed it. I mainly took care of small to medium-sized dogs, helping owners with walks, feeding, and spending quality time with their pets. It was such a rewarding experience, and I learned how to understand different dog personalities — from shy pups who need patience and gentle care to energetic ones who love long walks and playtime at the park.

Any home feels a little empty without a pet, luckily growing up my home was never without one (several actually), but sadly since moving to Edinburgh I do not have any. Pet sitting gives me a great opportunity to spend time with loving fur friends, enjoy their unique mannerisms, and maybe go out for some nice walks! I don't have any character requirements I just want them to be themselves, whether your pet is energetic, shy, indifferent, growly, etc. It’s more about company, safety and care. Trust is earned and I put the time in to adapt to different pet’s needs and behaviours, with the hope they will feel comfortable and at home with me :)&nbsp;
I have always enjoyed caring for animals and the range of experience I have had branches from domestic animals to wildlife, with a diploma in animal management to support my interest. I have been intermittently pet sitting throughout the years, but more major roles include animal rescue work, habitat conservation, protection of endangered birds, and kennels and cattery work - so quite a mix. During this time, I have cared for various species and breeds; reptiles, dogs, rabbits, cats, and often dealt with behavioural difficulties or anxiety in animals.
I have listed the option of home boarding, having a small but cosy 1st floor flat in Edinburgh centre with aspacious communal garden. There is a little spare room in my flat that works nicely as a space for pets staying, and there are plenty of spots to retreat to/climb up for their own space. My primary job is a professional cleaner so you can also expect a high standard of cleanliness for your pet. To stay with me pets must be vaccinated and have up to date cards, so I hope that's okay :)&nbsp;

I love being a pet sitter as no pet is the same! I have taken care of dogs for 16 years from puppy to adult, big to small, nervous to playful.&nbsp;
I have plenty of previous experience, including giving medication and training puppies. In my home, I have a big fenced garden where your dog can play. I have my own dog who is great with other pets but can be separated if your dog needs it.&nbsp;
I like to make sure the pets I take care of have all the stimulation they need, with plenty of sniffs on their walks and a good run around if that’s what they like!
