About Anna
I have owned my own dog, a Lhasa Apso, for the past seven years, giving me extensive hands-on experience in daily care, including walking, feeding, grooming, and understanding behaviour.
Since January 2026, I have also been volunteering with Dogs Trust, where I’ve built confidence working with dogs of different breeds, sizes, ages, and temperaments. This includes handling high-energy and strong dogs, as well as those who are more anxious or require a calmer, more structured approach.
I tailor each walk to the individual dog. For more energetic dogs, I provide engaging and controlled exercise, while for nervous or lower-energy dogs, I focus on calm, structured walks that build confidence. My psychology degree supports this, as I have a strong understanding of behaviour and reinforcement, allowing me to read body language effectively and respond in a calm, patient, and consistent way.
When planning walks, I prioritise safety and suitability. I choose locations based on the dog’s needs, such as quieter routes for reactive or nervous dogs, and more open spaces for confident, high-energy dogs. I always assess the environment in advance, considering traffic, other dogs, and potential hazards. I ensure dogs are securely fitted with collars/harnesses, leads are appropriate for control, and I carry essentials such as waste bags, water, and a phone in case of emergencies.
I am confident managing multiple dogs at once, maintaining control while ensuring each dog receives attention. I carefully assess compatibility before walking dogs together, considering size, temperament, and energy levels, and I keep group sizes manageable to maintain a safe and structured environment.
For first-time meetings, I take a calm and gradual approach. I allow the dog to approach me at their own pace, avoiding overwhelming them, and use positive reinforcement to build trust. I also take time to speak with owners beforehand to understand routines, triggers, and any specific needs, ensuring consistency and a smooth transition.
I am reliable, attentive to detail, and follow routines closely, whether for feeding, exercise, or additional care requirements. I prioritise clear communication with owners, providing updates and ensuring their preferences are always respected. I am also confident administering medication and handling unexpected situations calmly and responsibly.
I treat every dog with the same level of care and attention as my own and aim to provide a safe, enjoyable, and stress-free experience on every walk.
I am available Monday to Friday and can offer walks of up to 30 minutes or longer if required.
