About Me

Hi, I'm Amber, I grew up on the Mendips in Somerset and have a passion for the outdoors and animals. In fact, I think saying that I loved animals would be an understatement! I love being around animals and our home has always been full of pets. I have owned dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, tropical fish and horses. I am friendly, enthusiastic and reliable. I care deeply for animal welfare and conservation; In my spare time I volunteer for Somerset Wildlife Trust and am currently looking into volunteering at a local shelter. In the summer season I work as a self-employed ecologist specialising in bat surveys, but in winter it's pretty quiet here!

I Iove being outside, and my hobbies include horse riding, hiking and archery. I currently compete my Arabian mare in Endurance rides of up to 65km in one day!

My Experience, 

I have been looking after animals since I got my first rabbits when I was 8!

🐱 I have experience with young kittens, from 2 weeks old, both my own and my neighbours when they were away. I adore cats, they're my absolute favourite; sadly I lost my wonderful cuddly moggie, Hazel, to cancer in 2025. I'm more than happy to dish out some kitty cuddles to your pets!

🐶 I've owned a border collie, Bramble, so I know how energetic they can be and I'm happy to take your dogs for longer walks into the countryside. I'm often responsible for looking after my grandad's dog - including taking him for 2 walks a day in the woods. I love spending time with dogs and going for an adventure followed by cuddles!

🐑 I care for my neighbours cats, geese, chickens and sheep whilst they are away. 

🐥 I'm very experienced with chickens, having owned them for over 10 years. I've even raised my own chicks under a broody hen!

🦎 I've also had some experience looking after reptiles, after looking after a friends Bearded Dragon for 2 weeks.

🐎 I have worked at my local stables for 5 years and have 15+ years experience with horses - even looking after them when they are sick (strangles/colic/abcesses/). I now compete in Endurance Riding, where horse welfare is paramount and horses are vetted before, during and after the ride, so I spent a lot of my time at the field in Nettlebridge with our 4 Arabian horses and training my mare on the Mendips!

💊 I have experience with worming and flea-treatment, administration of eye-drops (cat's eye infection), taking temperatures and caring for ill pets.

I guarantee that I'll look after any pet with the same enthusiasm and dedication that I would my own!

My Pawshake Set-Up

I provided my services on Pawshake in Exeter for 2 years at university, and have now moved to Radstock/Wells/Shepton area. I am happy to commute up to ~5 miles from BA3 5AA on my own time, any further and mileage can be discussed.

In Exeter I had several dogs on a weekly walk schedule as well as looked after cats for up to 2 weeks at a time whilst the owners were on holiday - please see my reviews if you want to hear customer feedback!

Sadly I lost my beloved cat Hazel in 2025, so I now no longer have any pets at home. In a positive light, this means I won't be carrying a strange dog or cats scent on me whilst meeting and looking after your pets.

I have a car and will happily drive to your house, as I know how isolated this area can be! As my car is small, I would rather not transport your pets so this isn't something I offer.

I have very flexible hours due to my self-employed status. My only commitments are caring for the horses, this can be easily worked around for dog walking, house visits and house sitting locally. My friend can also care for them if I'm fully occupied with your pet!

I have a large garden and the entirety of Harridge Woods Nature Reserve on my doorstep for off-lead walks!

I am always active and will make sure to answer your messages within a day. I look forward to meeting you and your furry friends!

Services I offer:

• Dog Walking 🐕🌳

Daily or certain days of the week. I will walk your dog to nearby parks and woodlands from your house and am happy to let them off the lead - on your advice of course. I can track my walks with GPS and take photos. I'd love to provide some doggy-playtime, if your dog is willing! I can offer walks at most times of day, including lunchtimes when people are often at work. 

I offer a one-to-one service where I will never walk your dog/dogs with any other commercial clients so you can rely on me to focus solely on your pet!

• Doggy - Daycare 🐕🐩🌳🏡 

Drop your dog off in the serene valley of Nettlebridge and know they're in safe hands! We'll go on walks in Harridge Woods Nature reserve and surrounding fields, off-lead if you choose.

My home is 2 cottages in a small countryside hamlet, not on a main road or in a town!  Your pet will have roam of the downstairs areas. They can play in our large back garden (0.3 acres), relax inside if you bring their bed, and spend time outside in our fully-enclosed front garden including sunbathing and drying off in our south-facing porch after they've been for a splash in the woodlands river! 

If you want, they can also accompany me to the fully-enclosed horse field (top of the hill, 3 fields from my house!) where they can play with my friends labrador (male, neutered,  9 yo) and play ball over 10 acres. Sometimes there's a Cockapoo too! (female, neautered, 4 yo). 

Please bring your dogs food, treats, leash, bed, favourite toys and any oral medications needed.

• House Sitting 🏠🐕🐈🦎🐑🐓🐎🛌💤

So your pets can stay in familiar and safe surroundings. 

It's stressful for pets to leave their house and territory, and I know that many hate boarding! 

I would most likely leave your property for 1-2 hours per day, but if you pet requires constant supervision then this can be discussed! 😊

House Sitting includes whatever personalised routines your pets need!

I can also water plants, collect mail and keep the house secure if agreed.

• Home visits 🏠🐈🪀🚮

I can visit up to 3 times a day to feed & water, change litter and give love and attention! (If you require 3 visits per day, please message to discuss as the booking system only allows 2).

I will always stay an appropriate time for the individual pet/s in my care.

If I'm caring for cats that have cat flap access to the outside, who eat and then disappear (clearly wanting to get back outside to continue their adventures!), there would be little point in having an extended stay.

However, if I am visiting and caring for pets that really enjoy human company, (and especially young and elderly/timid pets), I would socialise with, cuddle, groom (if required) and reassure them for as long as they would enjoy!

& general look-over of your pet whilst you are away.

I have a lot of experience with ill pets and can quickly contact you and the vet if needed.

I will always keep you updated and reassure you that your pets are having a great time. I can show you their (mis)adventures!
