I am a long-term volunteer helper, initially through Wwoof (organic farms) and more recently through HelpX. This requires me to visit people in their homes and spend time with them. Usually I would help with handyman-type stuff or in the garden, but if there is a dog to be walked, that is an added bonus!
I have always enjoyed walking dogs, even as a youth. I like walking, and find it all the more gratifying to have the company of a dog or two!
Because I happily give dogs walks and affection, I find that they respond very positively towards me and that we become comfortable in each other’s company. I remember an occasion when my host, having returned from her holiday, was surprised to find her dog allowed me to stroke the top of his head.
As a rule, I prefer to allow a dog to come to me, rather than imposing myself on them. It sometimes takes time to develop trust between us, and it is much easier to go at the dog's pace.
My motivation to be a pet sitter is that it allows me to maintain my lifestyle and do something that I enjoy. 
I am immediately available for pet sitting and am prepared to travel anywhere in the UK.&nbsp;

Hello, I'm Victoria and I am from the UK. I was born into a home with 2 dogs, a jack russel, Kelly, and a boxer, Tilly. They were my best friends. Growing up our home was never without a dog. At 16 I was given a sprocker (springer/cocker mix) puppy, Scout, which I trained and cared for until I left home. 
 
 As soon as I moved into a home that allowed pets, I became a fosterer for Battersea Dogs home. To be a foster parent you must go through training and be assessed. I found the training fascinating and the whole experience was very rewarding. I was lucky enough to be given an old English bulldog called Tess to care for before she found her forever home. I also regularly dog sat for my mother in law, she has a bulldog called Sonnie and a French bulldog called Blue.
 
 I moved to New Zealand in 2019 where I first started working for PawShake. I am now back in the UK and I have a dog of my own! Woody the Whippet. 

I am super confident and happy to look after small to medium dogs however, as I am quite petit, a big dog may be too strong for me.
