About Martina

Hello!

I'm a lifelong nature and animal lover with decades of hands-on experience caring for creatures of all shapes and sizes — from our own beloved senior dog (whom we took on after a friend could no longer keep her), affectionately known as Woo, to regularly looking after my friends' and neighbours' cats, to riding and handling spirited ponies, and even caring for spiders, snakes, snails, fish, or other animals.

I grew up surrounded by animals, including dogs, ponies, a guinea pig, and a large fish tank. My very first "job" as a teenager was helping out on afternoons and weekends at a local pet shop where I grew up in Germany. I even kept birds as a young person after an escaped zebra finch landed right on my bedroom windowsill! Knowing he wouldn't survive in the wild, we took him in, found him a companion, and gave them a wonderful home. Later in life, I spent time living and working on a sheep farm in New Zealand, which gave me fantastic hands-on experience managing livestock in the great outdoors.

I thrive when I'm out in nature and absolutely detest being idle. For me, there's nothing better than being out in the open, exploring local trails, and ensuring a pet gets the mental stimulation, exercise, and affection they deserve. Because of my background with larger animals like horses and farm livestock, I have a naturally calm, confident, and patient approach. Whether your dog is a high-energy ball of fun who loves a brisk outdoor walk, a gentle senior who prefers a slow sniff-and-stroll, or a small pet who just needs a reliable drop-in feed and some company, they will be entirely safe with me.

Why now?

I'm at a stage in my life where I have a lot of flexibility. I live with my husband, our two grown-up children have moved away to study, and I like to keep occupied outside of the family home — ideally in the company of animals. My goal is not a rigid, full-time job, as I still travel a lot to spend time with family abroad and in the UK; it is simply about doing what I genuinely love while staying active and spending time outdoors. I'm looking to take on a few local activities that will help me fund my own favourite weekly luxuries, such as Zumba, local physio well-being sessions, tennis and perhaps the luxury of a cleaner (as I am definitely more of an outdoors person!), simply by doing what I like best: keeping busy and being out and about. I have a car and am able to transport animals safely in it (using a dedicated carrier box on the back seat).

For your peace of mind, I am fully DBS-checked and deeply involved in our local community. I used to volunteer with the Bourne End Scouts, assisting the Scout Leaders, and served as a school governor for more than 7 years at a nearby primary school, alongside working as a supply teacher for a period. Currently, I regularly drive elderly and disabled residents to the shops in our Community Minibus or to medical appointments in my private car via the Wye Valley Volunteers. I am also a trained vaccinator with St John Ambulance.

By trusting me with your furry, feathered, or scaly family member, you get an experienced, attentive, and energetic partner who will treat your pets with the exact same love, respect, and high standard of care that I give my own family and animals.
