"We'd had a hectic year and were looking forward to the summer holidays. However, the person who usually looks after our pets had started an apprenticeship, so wouldn't be able to help us.
Prices for someone to look after two dogs, two cats (one that needs medication) and a snake can be quite steep.
I decided to try Pawshake to find someone that would do homesitting, and after contacting a few people, Maria got back to me. We followed up with a visit and a booking.
Throughout our holidays, she sent me daily pictures of our pets, and even the most difficult ones warmed up to her, which is surprising, since they don't even get that close to me.
The dogs, especially, were very happy with Maria. They were given regular walks, cuddles and even got to watch the 2026 World Cup Final (which was a bit of a let down, to be honest, but they don't know that much about football, anyway).
Maria was great, she kept the house clean and washed the things she used during her final day. I felt much more comfortable with her than anything I had expected. She will definitely be on our minds next time we're planning some time away."

"Emily was our great surprise! Our regular sitter was busy, so we decided to try someone new.
When we first met her, we noticed she was calm and very attentive to all the little quirks we mentioned about our dog — and about me too, since I wanted daily updates.
She didn't just pay attention, she delivered more than we expected! She was so good with them that even our cat, who's social but NOT a lap cat, ended up on her lap. When we saw the picture, we knew we'd made the right choice!
We told her she didn't need to walk our dog if she played with him instead, since he can be a bit difficult (still a little anti-social with other dogs). She walked him every day anyway and handled him beautifully, even in the tricky moments.
And of course, we always pay close attention to how our babies are when we get back — they were calm and peaceful. Our dog even missed her afterward, just like he does whenever someone he loves leaves the house.
Do yourself a favor and book Emily — your pets will thank you.

"We'd never used a pet sitter before and booked a last minute holiday, so a bit nervous. Julia was perfect. She visited us, offered to come back for a second visit in the scorching heat just to reassure us and did so. She did everything she said she would. Sent pictures and updates each day on the pets and left our house spotless. She was lovely to deal with and couldn't recommend enough. Thanks again Julia. "Rebecca was amazing with our dog. She was friendly, punctual, provided daily updates, and let us know if there were any issues. "Bella was incredibly caring towards our three dogs and gave a lot of updates throughout the day which made us feel extremely safe. We came home to our dogs extremely happy and they felt incredibly safe with her and displayed less initial anxiety when we were away compared to friends and family we had left them with prior. She is keenly aware of our three dog's different personalities and needs and made sure they felt taken care of. Our dogs are seniors and we had not traveled as a family since the pandemic, so we were quite unsure how they would react, but Bella made it as seamless and comfortable for them as possible. I am extremely happy with trusting Bella with the well being of our three dogs. "

"Paula was amazing with my 2 puppy girls, she took care of them for a week while I was on holidays. She was sending me videos of my babies day and night so I was very relaxed under her care. She even cook for them and took them for walks. Paula haves plenty of experience with animals and is a dog lover too. "Julie looked after our two cats for a week and we couldn’t have had a better experience! From the initial contact we knew we were in good hands; excellent communication, knowledgable and honest. Julie took such good care of our cats and house and provided regular updates and photo’s. One of our cats is very anxious around strangers but Julie made extra effort with him and managed to make him comfortable, she is now one of only a few people he will purr and lounge with! 10/10 recommend Julie a wonderful cat sitter! "Olivia is fantastic, I cannot sing her praises highly enough. The moment I met her, I felt her warmth and positive energy; I knew immediately she was someone I could trust with my dogs and my house.
Olivia sat for us for about 11 hours on a Sunday, taking care of my 2 dogs plus my parents' dog which she very kindly agreed to also have. She sent pictures, videos and general updates throughout the day, left the house clean and tidy and was very gracious when we turned up an hour (or 2) later than promised.
I would definitely book Olivia again to look after my dogs or just to hang out, she's a lovely girl and she's welcome round here any time."
